I Needed The Sky

Mariachi Dancers

Mariachi dancers I stumbled across in the town square.. I love the colors; this group seemed fairly talented as well.

The Cardinals are on campus doing summer training and the surrounding streets are plugged with big SUVs from the valley and beyond. There are always lots of tourists here—except perhaps when the snow makes driving impossible—but Cardinal season is definitely the peak for traffic and festivities. The bike is my preferred mode of transportation because it is usually faster unless I am going to the far end of town. Tonight I biked into downtown and strolled around, met up with some friends, and had a quite relaxing evening. It was Art Walk night; the galleries have food and live music and the sidewalks are full of people. Summer evening weather is perfect for outdoor dining—almost anything, really—and downtown is truly a gathering place for people looking for a place to socialize and spend the evening. I haven’t seen anything like this outside of the Southwest.

This morning I prepared for moving by boxing stuff up and chucking stuff in the dumpster.  A few of us met at a nearby park and played a round of disc golf then went out for a late lunch. My new monitors came today so now I have a new pair of sweet Dell screens gracing the front edge of my desk. Drawing in Adobe Illustrator is fun with an enormous panoramic display.

Tomorrow I plan to hike to the summit of Humphreys again with 2 other friends. This will be my third time up this summer but there are enough unknowns to make each time unique. Somebody usually gets sick, or it rains, or we get lost, or the weather turns blizzardy—anything can happen, really.

Sunday I plan to move some stuff, but will spend most of the day with friends doing stuff like Ultimate frisbee and cliff jumping. Moving is not a high priority. Then it’s off to Phoenix bright and early Monday morning for another day at the firm. Next week I go again, but this time I will be staying a few days. The firm has accommodations at the Arizona Biltmore, Phoenix’s Waldorf Astoria property. This externship promises to be a lot of fun, with a jam-packed itinerary that will take us all over town.

It is getting late here. I’ll write more later, if there is anything worth reiterating.
