Friday night…tonight I was going to go downtown for Art Walk, a friend’s birthday, and a jazz performance by one of my professors. Instead, I found a coffee shop and tackled homework and correspondence on the laptop. All in all, it was a very productive and relaxing night, and I got assignments turned in on time and important emails sent to important people.
This week was recruiting week here in the business college. Wednesday, I had an interview for a Warren Buffett visit happening in November, which meant wearing a suit and tie to all my classes and evening meetings. Stuff like this comes up and I have no space on the calendar, so I end up taking off class or work just to make interviews. Thursday was another 12 hour suit day because recruiters were set up all over the building. Again, I took a few hours off work to “work the floors” meeting people I knew from summer career events and connected faces with email addresses. I printed 20 resumes at 6am, thinking it would be plenty, but I ran out before the event was over and had to print another batch. I don’t remember other career fairs being as large as this one; there were over 20 accounting firms, plus many other companies seeking computer information, finance, economics, management, and marketing majors. A very good day—prospects are looking good for several internship offers for next summer. One firm is taking me out to dinner next week, and I already have several interviews scheduled. Wrapped it up with a Microsoft presentation on developing apps for the new Windows 7 phone due out sometime before the end of the year.
Today was another marathon in business attire. I left the house a little after 7am, went to a training session at 8:30, then rushed back to the other end of campus for a computer information systems advisory panel discussion. One of my advisory contacts is on the CIS board, so he had input to contribute the discussion. Then a quick lunch before heading up to accounting career panel discussions and speed networking, wrapped up with a social banquet event as a final farewell to all the awesome professionals who came from Phoenix, LA, San Francisco, and Seattle for the day. Immediately after the mixer, I had a phone interview scheduled with a manager in Phoenix to learn more about the firm I am scheduled to interview at later this month. The interview was very informative and I was able to pull enough information to write a three-page paper on management for yet another assignment due tonight.
So, an extremely busy week. I still have my regular homework load and a major project to finish for accounting systems class. And several exams next week. Saturday and Sunday will be spent in review sessions and completing group projects due next week in another accounting class. Things are getting a little crazy, which is just the way I like them.
