Just another update… I’m glad to be back in Flagstaff after a trip to Virginia for a wedding on Saturday. It’s clear and sunny and perfect here, but too much of the time I’m stuck inside studying for upcoming CPA exams.
Last Thursday I completed my last final exam and finished out the rest of the day working in IT. I’m incredibly grateful for this job as it has given me lots of great exposure to technology and has been enjoyable work. At times it is demanding, like when the lighting or projector or sound system refuses to cooperate in front of an auditorium packed with a full audience. Or, I might get rushed into a meeting filled with important executives to fix video conferencing equipment. I have about 20 seconds to think of things to try as I’m running up the stairs. At other times I can quietly work in the office configuring new laptops, fixing broken computers, or figuring out fun new ways to use iPads and Apple TVs. I am able to stay working here until I leave for Virginia in July, so my summer plan is to work and study and ride the mountain bike.
Friday morning I drove to Phoenix and flew to Washington, DC. I had a straight flight, which was nice. I met my sister in the airport, who flew in from Nebraska, (and my brother and sis-in-law from Pennsylvania) then we all went to the bed and breakfast in Virginia and spent the night there. The wedding was Saturday afternoon so we spent a leisurely morning and early afternoon relaxing on the expansive porch of the old plantation house, drinking iced tea and exploring the nearby fields and river. The wedding was great; however, I won’t attempt a play-by-play.
Saturday evening we drove back to DC where I stayed at a hotel next to the airport. My plane left at 7am on Sunday. I had another straight flight, and a very good one, because I got back to Phoenix almost an hour ahead of schedule, at 8:30am. I got breakfast and prepared to start my day. I called up a friend and went over to his place for a while, then drove around Phoenix doing some shopping, etc before heading back up to Flagstaff. When I got back to Flagstaff I laid down for a nap at 4pm because suddenly I was pretty tired. I had a list of errands for Sunday afternoon, but the nap was first. Well, I woke up at 5 and realized it was 5am! on Monday already, so that was kind of shocking. I got up, found some breakfast, and went straight to work.
I’ve been trying to run or bike every day now that the weather is so perfect. The trails are smooth and clear (a bit of snow yet above 10k’). I’m still a bit slow but it feels good to get out and breathe this clear thin air. Since visiting VA, I’m pretty excited about moving to DC, and I am searching for cool places to live within my budget and near the river, bike paths, airport, and metro. It’s a tall order, I know.
