Hello world. What can I tell you that you don't already know?
It's Saturday. It's early, my coffee is hot, and my screen is dark and empty. The rain of last night lingers. The sky is low and heavy. Traffic is not. It's raining. In short, it's a gray day. Gray and cozy.
Today's hike has been cancelled due to a host of factors. It's raining, the rocks are wet, the clouds are low, the trail is muddy, and the park is closed. I wasn't going anyway. I've been hiking in Virginia the last three Saturdays. Good times were had. There's beauty to be found if one is willing to look long and hard for it.
Today I am going to relax. I'm looking forward to a slow weekend. Where I can wonder aimlessly, no particular train of thought, no particular place to go..
I just finished Malcolm Gladwell's David and Goliath. If you've read many of his other books, you'll know what to expect. A lot of claims, some of them overblown, perhaps, but, nevertheless, food for thought. I found the parts on education and our justice system the most fascinating. Not a lot of new material; just a well-assembled, thought-provoking book, and a good use of my time.
I'm also really enjoying A Place of My Own, by Michael Pollan. It's good, like a modern day Thoreau - and much more palatable.
The last two weeks have been a whirlwind. It isn't sticking around so no use reporting it here. My Facebook stream is blowing up with pictures of Flagstaff in full fall foliage. Runners on frosty trails, snowy mornings, crisp air, sunflowers and those gold aspens.
